Privacy policy
Write Club is a year-round writing club run by Vickery & Co. at club.vickeryandco.com, with its welcome page at talkaboutwriteclub.com. This page explains what we collect when you use either one, who can see it, and how to get it deleted. The short version: we collect what the club needs to work, we don't sell it, and we don't show you ads.
What we collect
- Your email address, so we can send you a 6-digit sign-in code. There are no passwords.
- What you tell us about you: your name, an optional photo, what you're writing, and its genre.
- Your writing progress: your goals and deadlines, your rounds, how many words you log each day, your sprint results, and the badges you earn. We never see your actual manuscript, only the numbers you type in.
- What you post: messages in the writers' room, lines you share in Lines we love, high-fives, and notes to your accountability partner.
- Your time zone, so "today" means your today.
- Reports you make about a post or line.
- Invite requests: if you ask to join, the name, email, and anything you tell us about your writing.
Who can see what
| Information | Who sees it |
|---|---|
| Your name, photo, project, progress, badges, room posts, and shared lines | Every club member |
| Who you're partnered with | Every club member |
| Partner requests, nudges, and partner notes | Only you and your partner |
| Your email address | Only the host |
| Reports you make | Only the host, who never sees who made them |
| Invite requests | Only the host |
The host is Heather Vickery, who runs the club. She can see the members list, emails, and activity so she can let people in, look after the community, and remove posts or members when needed.
Partner notes are private to the two of you, but they aren't encrypted, so keep real secrets out of them.
Companies that help run the club
We use a few services to run Write Club. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job.
- Supabase stores the club's data and handles sign-in, on servers in the United States.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Resend sends sign-in codes and club emails.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that people signing in are human, without a puzzle.
- Sentry tells us when something breaks. It's set up to leave out emails, sign-in codes, and anything you write.
- Google Analytics counts page visits and kinds of activity, such as "someone logged words." It never receives your name, email, account id, invite codes, or anything you write. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off.
- PayPal, if you choose to chip in. PayPal's own privacy policy covers that payment; we don't see your payment details.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Cookies and your browser
- A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in. The club can't work without it.
- Google Analytics cookies help us count visits without knowing who you are. If you visit from the EU or UK, we ask first, and Analytics stays off unless you say yes.
- Your browser also remembers a few small things, like which tours you've seen and whether you skipped logging a sprint.
How long we keep things
- We keep your information while you have an account.
- Deleting your account (in your profile) erases it for good: your account, words, rounds, badges, posts, lines, notes, and photo. We keep only a record that an account was deleted, by whom, and when.
- When you delete a single post, its text is wiped and the room shows "(your name) deleted a comment" in its place.
- Encrypted nightly backups are kept for 30 days, so deleted information is fully gone from backups within 30 days.
- If the host removes a member, we keep their email on a blocked list so they can't sign up again. If a request to join is declined, we keep it so it isn't shown to the host again.
Your choices
You can change your name, photo, goal, and project any time, choose which emails you get, and delete your account yourself. To get a copy of your information, correct something, or ask any question about your privacy, email heather@vickeryandco.com.
Age
Write Club is for people 18 and older.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell members in the club before it takes effect.
